Guest Bedroom-bits and pieces

I've had this print for a few years, it's a picture that Greg took 10+ years ago that I had blown up and intended to hang in the office at my first home, but then we got hitched and moved and.......

.....well I kept it because I like it and thought I would use it one day

 One day was this day (a week or two ago)

I planned to trace the canvases and then cut the pieces out and modge podge them to the canvases.....

Emerson HAS to do everything we are doing and since he's past putting everything in his mouth, we stripped (well he stripped) and got to it...

He's a good helper although the multitasking that was going on may have caused the resulting bubbles and also could have been the give in that canvases themselves....? Oh well! They are stuck now and from a distance don't look too bad :) 

I just realized that some on the bottom row are upside down!! Haha

We had company over the weekend and they may have gotten knocked down, but you get the idea, I HOPE!!!

Remember that lumbar we got from the frightening place in Downtown Portsmouth? Well my Dad and I got to working on it this weekend :) Here's what we have so far....

Em is supervising here, just seeing what we've got to work with :)

Skippy Peanut Butter

Saturday morning myself, Greg, Em, my Mom and Dad, and Aunt Laurie headed to downtown P-town for a little adventure..........

Are you wondering what any of this has to do with Skippy?

Well....nothing really?! HAHA This picture explains the reason why we ended up in this frightening old Skippy peanut butter plant......reclaimed lumbar!!!!!! I got this guy's number from a nick nack store after spending about 6 months looking for reclaimed lumbar on Craigslist, the side of the road, dumpsters.....you name it.......I looked! I don't know why this was more terrifying than a dumpster....it just felt like something out of a horror movie!!! 

I could only get pictures when we were near a light and I didn't even make it....upstairs. Well......because of some stomach issues but that's besides the point :) 

We got our wood and got out! Then we had a little break so Em could pick up some rocks in the parking lot,  always a good time :)

Greg is CLEARLY thrilled to have spent 30 minutes of his life looking through an junky, abandoned peanut butter factory for some dirty old wood ;) Thank you, I really appreciate it!
Hopefully, he'll be more excited once we have beautiful, original sofa table ;)
My Dad on the other hand, had a GREAT time, so if I ever need to go back, I'll think I'll bring Dad along and leave Emerson with Greg :)

Our Garden-1 month follow-up

We have a few tiny little tomatoes :)

And the basil is doing great, we seeded parsley and cilantro and it's coming up! 

Thanks goodness for all the rain, my crazy schedule right now has given me only a few chances to look out back and see what's going on. Mother Nature has done a good job of taking care of the garden so far, we haven't had to do much. I think I'll put our pole beans in this weekend :)

I talked to a very nice man yesterday and have finally found some reclaimed lumbar!!!! So, we can finish a table we started in the fall? Hopefully Greg's as excited as I am to work on our "honey-do" list this weekend :) If things get really crazy we might get some decks posts in to set-up good while we are gone next week? That's getting really crazy though.........we'll see!?

big city farmer

That's me, big city farmer wannabe!.....Greg helped me fashion this awesome raised bed on the cheap!   (well honestly he made them, Em and I just supervised) We lined the bottom with weed blocking fabric because we had some on hand, I wouldn't have gone out an bought any I think I would have used newspaper, matter of fact when we get grass in the front yard and re-mulch I think I'll put newspaper underneath for weed blocking? Anyway......we had a bucket of dirt from where Greg had to dig up our old deck, threw that in the bed and that's how it rested for almost 3 weeks!!!!

funny side note: when we go out Em sits in the bed and says farming? and then E, I, E, I, O :) he's learning so much so fast it's incredible!

I know! The hardware store up the street missed a delivery and had no topsoil and then we had a crisis of sorts at work....long story short we got our dirt and free time delivered and now..........

I mixed this composted cow manure with top soil for nutrients we'll see how it goes? (don't worry it didn't smell like manure :) 

Dirty drawers

Dirty mouth?......clean it up! there is no point telling a 20 months old not to put dirt in his mouth, if you tell him "no" he's just going to do it even more! :)

can I just tell you? I love this little boy! I also love instagram, it's so forgiving!

as of April 15

We planted 2 tomato plants, 1 pepper plant, 1 basil plant and 10 strawberry plants (the berries won't fruit until next year, we'll be patiently waiting!)
We directly sowed cucumber, cilantro, parsley, pole bean seeds and some flowers for cutting :)

I know it doesn't look like much now, but you've got to start somewhere? We'll keep you posted on our veggie progress

ahhhh....yard dreaming

I don't think my mind turns off very often, I wish it did! I might not keep adding stuff to a list when I can't even get things done I've already started!

Anywhooo......Greg had to take down part of our deck last fall because the back of our house is falling off! Not really, but kind of? That's how it goes with old homes. She's working on 100 years! Needed to pour some concrete in the basement and outside of it to stabilize everything and then get the bricks replaced and filled in.

So here's what we are working with

So here's a running list of some of the things we would like to accomplish:

replace the deck 

get a garden going (working on that now, hopefully I can show you sometime this week!)

play area for Em

real grass in the front yard ( right now all we are growing in from and back is weeds!)

remove aluminum siding and paint wood siding underneath (that'll be a whopper)

a beautiful day for yardwork and golf

Emerson and I got to enjoy the nice weather yesterday with a trip to Lowe's, the park, a nap, lunch and some yardwork and a little golf :)

We have a small strip of dirt that runs between our driveway and house, it doesn't get much sunlight and only had a few things living in it, WEEDS and one azalea.

We left the azalea, tore out the weeds and planted some ground cover, hopefully it will do really well and fill in nicely by next year :)

Emerson helping me plant this awesome swirly grass, that had been catching my eye, everytime I entered Lowe's so this time we got it, I figured now we had a spot for it now beacuse one of my daylilies didn't come back this year?

On a side note: Greg played in a ProAm golf tournament about a week ago, where he was tied for 1st place, he had his playoff match last night and WON!!!! GO GREG!!!
